It is not any different in the field of digital transformation. What positive aspects separate great digital transformation players from those not so successful in change efforts? The list below is based on over 20 years of my project work– often with digitalization or business operations transformation projects. Let’s call the aspects allowing those organizations and individuals to thrive in change efforts – transformation superpowers.
Superpower #1
Can do attitude: As simple as it sounds, the ability to approach digital change situations with a positive mindset and an ability to execute planned actions is often the inflexion point of results of transformation actions.

Agility: The ability to be flexible in responding to context and circumstances is a key factor in implementing digital tools and processes. In any transformation project there is a material amount of unknown and ambiguity. Agility to respond to changing realities is a true key to successful implementation.

A proper project toolbox: Today’s digital transformation projects are usually include a range of challenges from technicalities, marketing buzzwords and navigating sensitive human topics. To navigate successfully you need a proper set of project methodologies. This project toolbox includes both standard (phased projects) and more modern project methodologies (agile, lean, Kanban, DevOps) as well as proper change management methodologies.

With a variety of technologies and tools needed in technological transformation, successful organizations are mastering the ability source more agile people for more complex job functions.
In any aspect of business and life we see examples of individuals and organizations that respond very quickly to a challenging environment and are well equipped for transformation and change initiatives. I believe, that amongst other factors, those individuals and organizations have the superpowers described above. The good news is that unlike typical superhero abilities, these superpowers are not received by cosmic coincidence. These superpowers can be taught, learned and implemented.
